IN Brief:
- Rehm has introduced the RDS UV dryer for UV coatings and adhesives in electronics manufacturing.
- The system supports mercury medium-pressure lamps or UV LED fields depending on process requirements.
- The platform is designed to shorten curing times and reduce energy consumption on production lines.
Rehm Thermal Systems has launched the RDS UV dryer, a new curing system for UV coatings and adhesives used in electronics manufacturing.
The company said the system is designed to provide fast and energy-efficient curing for coated electronic assemblies, where processing speed and coating reliability are both becoming more important in production.
The RDS UV is intended for use with UV-curing coatings and adhesives and is designed to complete curing in seconds. Rehm said the system can be configured either with undoped mercury medium-pressure lamps or with UV LED fields, depending on the material and thermal requirements of the application.
The standard mercury lamp option delivers 120 W/cm and is specified for a service life of more than 8,000 hours. The UV LED version offers a typical service life of 20,000 hours and is suited to applications involving more temperature-sensitive materials because of its lower thermal impact.
Rehm said the system includes a height-adjustable energy source, adjustable exhaust air volume, and a short heat-up phase to support efficient operation. Transport through the machine is handled by a pin-chain conveyor with adjustable track width and speed.
The RDS UV supports board widths from 80 mm to 480 mm and a passage height of up to plus or minus 100 mm. Safety air locks are integrated at the infeed and outfeed.
UV-curing materials are widely used in electronics production where assemblies require protection against moisture, chemicals, dust, and other environmental influences. As reliability requirements rise in sectors such as industrial electronics, automotive, and safety-related systems, curing performance is becoming a more tightly controlled stage of the manufacturing process.
With the RDS UV, Rehm is targeting manufacturers seeking shorter cycle times and more flexible curing options without increasing process complexity on the line.
