SBF has begun commercialising two automation systems developed inside its own electronics manufacturing operations: an enhanced Automatic Label Feeder and an automated optical inspection platform called INSPECT. Both products are being moved into the group’s Sensor Technology and Electromechanics business for sale to external industrial customers.
The Automatic Label Feeder, or ALF, originated as an internal electronics-production system before being developed into a separate product line. Its latest version can apply labels to printed circuit boards, electronic components, and glass vials, extending the platform into pharmaceutical production, laboratory diagnostics, and fine chemicals.
SBF has designed the feeder around a configurable platform rather than one fixed labelling task. That allows the mechanical and control architecture to be adapted to different products and production processes, broadening the potential customer base without requiring a separate machine design for every application.
INSPECT operates later in the electronics manufacturing process. The system carries out automated optical checks after surface-mount assembly, using a high-resolution camera to capture the populated PCB while software identifies fiducial marks, component positions, and component orientation.
The same system can read standard barcode and 2D-code formats and automatically document inspection results. SBF says setup takes only a few minutes and that calibration and operating data remain stored during software updates, reducing the amount of reconfiguration required after maintenance.
Automatic optical inspection is already widely used in PCB production, so INSPECT enters an established equipment category. Its practical performance will depend on factors such as inspection speed, supported component libraries, false-call rates, field of view, defect coverage, and interface options — specifications that SBF has not disclosed in the launch material.
The route from internal manufacturing equipment to an external product gives the systems a different development history from machinery designed entirely as catalogue equipment. Tools used on a working production line encounter operator interaction, product changes, calibration, maintenance, data retention, and process interruptions before they are offered to outside customers.
That experience can expose useful requirements, although it does not remove the demands of commercial equipment support. External users will expect documented interfaces, software maintenance, service arrangements, spare parts, and repeatable performance across production environments that differ from SBF’s own factories.
INSPECT remains the closer fit with the company’s electronics operations because it addresses PCB quality control directly after SMD assembly. ALF has a broader market path, using the same automation platform for electronics components and glass vials where traceability and repeatable label placement are required.
SBF’s Sensor Technology and Electromechanics business already develops and manufactures circuit boards, sensors, communications technology, and associated software. Commercialising the two systems adds production equipment to that mix, allowing manufacturing methods developed internally to be sold alongside the group’s existing component and electronics activities.
The next evidence will come from external installations rather than internal use. Repeat orders, published machine specifications, and measured production performance will show whether ALF and INSPECT can move from field-tested factory tools into scalable equipment products competing with established labelling and inspection systems.
