Scanfil expands Polish electronics manufacturing capacity

Scanfil is expanding its Mysłowice electronics manufacturing plant in Poland. The 6,000 square metre addition will take the facility to roughly 36,000 square metres and increase capacity for system integration, warehousing, and logistics.

Scanfil is expanding its electronics manufacturing complex in Mysłowice, Poland, by 6,000 square metres following new customer wins and additional system-integration projects. The development will take the factory to roughly 36,000 square metres, an increase of about 20%, and make it the company’s largest European plant by floor area.

The additional facilities are scheduled to become operational during the first quarter of 2028. Mysłowice specialises in system integration, warehousing, and logistics, supporting global customers while serving Central Europe in particular, so the investment extends capacity around the later stages of electronics production rather than simply adding board-assembly floor space.

System integration can demand considerably more factory area than component placement alone. Complete products may require electromechanical assembly, cabinet integration, cable installation, software loading, configuration, functional test, packaging, and customer-specific finishing before they leave the plant. Each stage introduces additional material handling, work-in-progress, test, and traceability requirements.

Christophe Sut, chief executive of Scanfil, said: “Organic growth has continued for four consecutive quarters, reaching 5.6% year-on-year in H1 2026.” The company linked the expansion to recent customer wins and new integration programmes, giving the investment a defined commercial basis rather than treating additional floor space as speculative capacity.

That distinction matters in contract electronics manufacturing, where factory utilisation depends on the timing of customer programmes as much as the nominal amount of installed equipment. A production line can be rearranged comparatively quickly, but system integration often needs dedicated test stations, assembly cells, staging space, and controlled material flows that are harder to accommodate once a building is already operating close to its physical limits.

The warehousing component is therefore closely tied to the manufacturing expansion. Higher-mix industrial electronics can bring PCBs, processors, power supplies, mechanical parts, connectors, cables, displays, and customer-supplied assemblies into the same production programme, often with several product variants sharing much of the bill of materials. Poorly balanced storage and kitting capacity can move a bottleneck upstream even when the assembly area itself has room to grow.

Mysłowice also gives Scanfil a Central European base for customers seeking regional final assembly and integration while retaining wider international sourcing for semiconductor, PCB, and electromechanical content. European manufacturing strategies increasingly rely on that combination: shorter final production and logistics routes do not require every component to originate locally, but they do require regional factories capable of absorbing complex programmes and coordinating globally sourced material.

For OEMs, the practical attraction lies in keeping configuration, final test, system assembly, and distribution within one manufacturing relationship. Products with increasing software content can leave a factory in multiple hardware and firmware configurations, while industrial and medical equipment may require serialised records and customer-specific testing before dispatch. Those activities consume labour and space even where the underlying electronics assembly is heavily automated.

The investment also stretches Scanfil’s capacity planning well beyond the current order cycle. With completion scheduled for early 2028, the company is committing capital against programmes expected to develop over several production years rather than reacting to a short-lived increase in quarterly demand.

Bringing another 6,000 square metres into operation will only be the first part of that process. The enlarged plant will need production equipment, test capacity, trained staff, material flow, and customer volumes to grow together if the physical expansion is to translate into higher output rather than simply a larger building.
