IN Brief:
- Renesas recorded ¥435.2 billion of third-quarter non-GAAP revenue and ¥150.5 billion of non-GAAP operating profit.
- IFRS operating profit included a significant non-recurring gain associated with the disposal of the Timing Business.
- The group projects full-year non-GAAP revenue between ¥1,659.3 billion and ¥1,674.3 billion.
Renesas Electronics recorded third-quarter non-GAAP revenue of ¥435.2 billion for the three months to 30 September 2026, with non-GAAP operating profit of ¥150.5 billion. The Japanese semiconductor manufacturer reported a 34.6% operating margin on that adjusted basis, alongside a 59.4% gross margin, as it completed a quarter of higher revenue than the preceding three months.
Revenue had stood at ¥405.3 billion in the second quarter on the same non-GAAP measure, providing a comparable sequential reference point for the latest figures. Third-quarter non-GAAP gross profit was ¥258.3 billion and EBITDA was ¥173.4 billion. Renesas supplies embedded processors, microcontrollers, analogue and power devices, and connectivity components used in automotive systems, factory equipment, and connected electronic products.
The difference between the statutory and adjusted measures is unusually large because IFRS operating profit includes a gain on the disposal of the Timing Business. IFRS revenue was ¥435.9 billion, close to the non-GAAP figure, while IFRS operating profit was ¥565.3 billion. The resulting IFRS operating margin of 129.7% reflects the transaction as well as normal trading. A ¥445.7 billion reconciliation category includes the disposal gain together with other non-recurring and adjustment items; it is not the amount of the gain alone.
Amortisation of acquired intangible assets, stock-based compensation, and other identified items also affect the reconciliation between the two accounting bases. By contrast, the gross margins are closely aligned: 59.0% on an IFRS basis and 59.4% on a non-GAAP basis. The comparison places the large operating-profit difference chiefly below the gross-profit line, where the disposal and other adjustments are recorded.
Across the nine months to September, Renesas recorded non-GAAP revenue of ¥1,212.8 billion and operating profit of ¥408.7 billion, representing a 33.7% adjusted operating margin. Non-GAAP gross profit for the nine-month period totalled ¥713.9 billion, or 58.9% of revenue. Those cumulative figures give a broader picture of the company’s underlying trading activity than the single quarter affected by the portfolio transaction.
Renesas supplies microcontrollers, embedded processors, analogue and power devices, and connectivity components whose demand can move together within a customer programme. A vehicle control unit can combine digital processing, supply regulation, signal conditioning, and network interfaces; an industrial controller brings similar functions together around different sensors and electrical loads. Inventory and order changes in those systems can affect several device families even where the end product remains in production.
Product mix, wafer fabrication costs, packaging, testing, and capacity utilisation all contribute to the semiconductor group’s margins. A highly integrated controller and a discrete power component can have quite different assembly and test requirements, while shipment timing changes how fixed costs are absorbed. Renesas reported its headline gross and operating margins at consolidated level, so these figures describe the group rather than a margin attributable to an individual microcontroller or power-device range.
Renesas has separately provided a full-year 2026 forecast of ¥1,659.3 billion to ¥1,674.3 billion in non-GAAP revenue. It expects a non-GAAP gross margin of 58.6% and an operating margin of 33.2%, with both margin forecasts calculated at the midpoint of the revenue range. The full-year projection combines the nine-month results with expectations for the final three months of the year.
As a reference, the company recorded ¥1,318.5 billion in revenue for 2025 on the comparison basis used in its forecast table. Its 2026 financial guidance assumes exchange rates of ¥158 to the US dollar and ¥183 to the euro. Changes in component demand, pricing, manufacturing costs, and foreign-exchange movements could therefore affect the final-quarter outcome even where physical shipment volumes remain stable.
At the midpoint of Renesas’s full-year forecast, adjusted 2026 revenue would be approximately ¥1,666.8 billion. Subtracting the reported nine-month figure implies around ¥446.5 billion to ¥461.5 billion of fourth-quarter non-GAAP revenue across the forecast range. That is the final trading period against which the 58.6% projected full-year gross margin and 33.2% projected operating margin will be measured, without the one-off Timing Business gain being treated as semiconductor operating earnings.
