IN Brief:
- SmartRay has extended its ECCO X inline metrology range into reflective and transparent surface inspection.
- The ECCO X 050G targets flat glass and specular parts with up to 40kHz scanning and 4,096 points per profile.
- Folding glass-capable 3D inspection into the X platform could simplify sensor standardisation across electronics and semiconductor lines.
SmartRay has added a glass-capable model to its ECCO X range, bringing high-speed 3D inspection of reflective and transparent surfaces into the company’s compact inline metrology platform.
The new ECCO X 050G combines the higher-throughput, compact form factor of the broader ECCO X family with optics tuned for flat glass and specular materials, extending a capability that SmartRay previously offered through its ECCO 95 G-series sensors. In electronics manufacturing, reflective parts have long been among the more awkward targets for conventional laser-triangulation systems, particularly where repeatable inline measurement is required at production speed.
SmartRay is positioning the sensor for applications including mobile phones, semiconductors, camera and eyewear lenses, and automotive glazing. The published specification puts scan rate at up to 40kHz, with 4,096 points per 3D profile, typical vertical resolution of 2.2 to 2.9µm, lateral resolution of 11 to 13µm, a 15mm measurement range, a 32.7mm stand-off distance, and a 450nm blue laser.
The interface set is aimed at production integration rather than lab-only inspection. Gigabit Ethernet handles data transfer, while a quadrature encoder interface and configurable I/O support external triggering and synchronisation inside automated inspection cells. In effect, SmartRay is moving reflective-surface measurement into the faster, more standardised ECCO X platform.
For integrators trying to standardise across multiple inspection stations, that could make deployment simpler on electronics and semiconductor lines where materials and surface finishes vary sharply from one process step to the next. SmartRay says the ECCO X 050G is available through its distributor and system-integrator network, with enquiries handled through its contact channels.
