Kontron has expanded its industrial embedded portfolio around Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 processors (codenamed Panther Lake) and AMD’s Ryzen AI Embedded P100 series, positioning both platforms as edge AI building blocks for workloads that need low latency and predictable power budgets.

At Embedded World 2026, the company is showing its 3.5” SBC PTL platform for industrial deployments, built to combine CPU, GPU, and an integrated neural processing unit on one board. The immediate implication for system designers is straightforward — more AI inference can be pushed into standard compute footprints, with fewer external accelerators, fewer thermal headaches, and a simpler BOM for ruggedised edge nodes.

Kontron has already published more detailed SBC-PTL specifications, describing a Panther Lake-based board design supporting up to 16 cores, an integrated NPU for inference, and up to 12 Xe GPU cores, with claimed AI throughput up to 180 TOPS for AI and video analytics use cases. The platform is positioned for high-density visual pipelines, with support for up to four concurrent 6K displays, and connectivity tuned for real-time industrial networks, including 2.5GbE with TSN support. Memory and expansion lean on mainstream embedded design choices — DDR5 SO-DIMMs, multiple M.2 slots, and a broad 9V to 36V input range for brownout-prone environments.

AMD’s side of the announcement centres on Kontron’s K4131-Px mini-ITX industrial motherboard, designed around Ryzen AI Embedded P100 processors and pitched at graphics-heavy edge deployments. Kontron is pushing multi-display capability (up to four DisplayPort outputs, plus LVDS and eDP options), multiple M.2 slots for storage and wireless connectivity, and legacy-friendly I/O such as COM ports for plant-floor integrations that are never going away. A 9V to 34V wide input range and an accompanying SMARTCASE S740 housing option underline the target market — machines, cabinets, and kiosks that will be expected to run for years, not quarters.

Beyond processors, Kontron is weaving a clear compliance narrative into the product set, tying new platform introductions to cybersecurity and lifecycle management requirements under the EU Cyber Resilience Act. The company is also highlighting 5G industrial modules in series production, and additional edge acceleration options at the system level via mezzanine expansion for AI workloads that still need a step up in TOPS without redesigning the base platform.
